Description

A casual chat between MAOPS President Dr. Michael Brown and Jason Haxton, MA comparing Dr. A.T. Still’s treatment of infectious diseases 100 years ago compared to the COVID-19 virus.  This program is geared to current Osteopathic Physicians, student doctors, and those interested in Osteopathic Healthcare.

Learning Objectives:
1. Develop a solid base of information on A.T. Still, the founder of Osteopathic Healthcare
2. Develop a solid base of information on the first major challenge: the Spanish Flu.
3. Learn how osteopathic physicians treated the Spanish Flu and how osteopathic physicians today can use these lessons to treat patients during the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Accreditation Statements:
The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. MAOPS designates this program for a maximum of 1 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation.

The Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons (MAOPS) designates this live activity for a maximum of 1 AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™.  Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Grievance Policy:
All grievances should be in writing and should specify the nature of the grievance.  Initially, all grievances should be directed to MAOPS Executive Director, who will then forward said grievance to the Education & Convention Committee.  All grievances will receive an initial response in writing within 30 days of receipt.  If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response, then they can then submit a complaint in writing to the Bureau of Osteopathic Education of the AOA at 142 East Ontario Street, Chicago, IL 60611.

Dr. Michael Brown is a graduate of the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his medical residency in Family and Community Medicine at Truman Medical Centers. Currently, he works for Meritas Health in North Kansas City, where he practices family medicine. Dr. Brown has held many positions within the American Osteopathic Association and the Missouri Association of Osteopathic Physicians and Surgeons, and currently serves on the MAOPS board where he holds the office of President-Elect. He lives in Smithville, MO with his wife and six children.

Jason Haxton, MA, DO (h.c.) has been the director of the Museum of Osteopathic Medicine since January 2001. Besides managing the Museum that was created in 1934, he makes multiple international trips each year (Belgium, Russia, Germany, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Brazil and the UK) to provide lectures, historic research materials and promote the principles of osteopathic medicine through exhibits for osteopaths globally.  At A.T. Still University in Kirksville he keeps a busy schedule teaching medical students and welcoming guests from around the world to the museum. His leadership at the Museum was recognized as an American Osteopathic Association (AOA) Shining STAR organization for its work promoting the osteopathic profession worldwide.
