Neuromuscular toxicity is relatively common, especially metaldehyde (slug bait) in dogs and permethrins in cats, and in this session we will go on to discuss a general approach to the treatment of patients with muscle tremors or seizures. Find out what RSI DEAD is all about!
Key points to be covered:
- General approach to the poisoned patient including aspects of decontamination
- Intravenous lipid emulsion: what it is, when and how to use it
- Rational approach to neuromuscular toxicity
- Chocolate poisoning (surely not!)
Common Nephrotoxins and What to Do about Them
Nephrotoxins are some of the more common poisons affecting both dogs and cats. In this session we will delve into some of the more common ones in detail before discussing the management of acute kidney injury (AKI) in general terms.

- NSAIDs and ethylene glycol in dogs and cats
- Vitis fruits (grapes, raisins, etc.) in dogs

Pick ‘n’ Mix of Other Common Poisons
In this final session we will look at a number of the other poisons that are relatively commonly implicated in small animal patients discussing each in detail and explaining how to go about managing affected patients.
