It happened 4 years ago… I had heard that the best way to start – and grow – an online business was to start selling online courses. And I knew about people who were making more than a million dollars per year doing it.
And there I was. I was about to release my first online course, and the day before it went live, something terrible happened…

Or maybe my servers failed and I couldn’t process transactions…
Those would be easier problems to overcome.
The truth is, what I was dealing with was even worse…
It wasn’t a problem I could throw money or resources at to solve.
It wasn’t a problem that I could “think” my way out of.
It’s embarrassing to even talk about it now, but the truth is…
I got cold feet.
I was literally on the verge of cancelling the entire launch. The feelings of self-doubt and fear completely overtook me.
All I could think about was:
“Am I even good enough to teach people this stuff?”
“Why would anyone trust me?”
“Why would anyone buy a course when they could get the same thing for free?”
And I kept beating myself up.
I looked at my course videos…
I had horrible handwriting. Even though I bought a brand new camera, my videos looked like trash. And my hair was a damn mess.
At that point I had convinced myself that it was time to cancel the entire thing.
Because that would make sense right?
Worried about failure?
Pull the plug. Don’t do anything. Then you can’t fail!
So I sat there at my computer screen, just a few hours before launch, with my finger hovering over the mouse button…
I had written an e-mail to all of my subscribers telling them that the launch was off. I was on the verge of hitting send…
But then I realized something—and this realization set me on a path to building a multi-million dollar online education company.

Sure, I made a fine salary and had a nice lifestyle. But I was missing one very important thing:

“I Never Created An Online Course Before!”
Let’s say you move past the “ain’t nobody got time for that.” And let’s say, that like having a baby, you decided to just make it work.
You might be thinking, “Well, what makes you think I could do it? I never did this before?”

I was HORRIBLE at communicating what I knew to other people.
People see me on video today and think, “You’re a natural!” But that’s not how it started. In fact, I was so nervous, that you could see red splotches on my neck!

There was something about sharing what I knew with the world that just lit me up.
I couldn’t explain it, but I knew I wanted to do more of it.

Now, of course, I later got more comfortable speaking in front of large groups of people. But guess what? I would have NEVER realized I could do it until I tried to do it for the first time.

I can totally relate…
When I was a kid, my mom was on welfare. And my dad was in jail. I didn’t do well in school. Heck, I almost failed the 12th grade. And yes, I did go to college, but it was just a state school.
On paper, I just wasn’t Ivy League material.
And as I became a young man, I’d like to tell you things got better. But they didn’t. I didn’t do well in college. My first semester GPA was like a 2.5. And as I started to think about my career, I knew I didn’t have a chance.
But there I was… 27 years old and I just had a huge successful online course launch… and not one person asked me about my childhood… not one person asked me about my college degree… not one person asked me about anything related to my “traditional credentials.”
