I’ll never forget that day.

I worked as a loss prevention manager in Beverly Hils at a store called Hermès.

Here’s how my day went:

• Woke up at 4:30 AM
• Left my house by 5:00 AM and drove an hour to work
• From 6:00AM to 10:00 AM I worked on my SEO projects in Starbucks
• I begin my dreaded day job at 10:00 AM
• I went on my lunch “break” at 2:00 PM (“break”, as in I took my laptop to Starbucks and worked on SEO)
• After my one-hour lunch, I went back to my day job and was there until 6:30 PM

As crazy as it seems…

• I would then get a quick dinner and go BACK to Starbucks for another night SEO session from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM
• I stayed in Beverly Hills until 9:00 PM to avoid the horrible traffic
• I would get home around 10:00 PM or 10:30 PM and I would wake up the next day and do it all over again

I did this for a year STRAIGHT.

“Stop Dreaming”

People get insecure when you step outside of the status quo.

One of these “people” was a woman I worked with.

I don’t want to throw her under the bus, so let’s say her name was “Jill”.

Jill and many of my co-workers often asked me:

“What are you always doing on your laptop inside Starbucks?”

My answer was always the same:

“I’m working on SEO projects because I want to start my own SEO business.”

The most common reactions to my answer were:

“What is SEO?” or “Oh.. That’s cool”

The second statement was usually followed with an awkward silence or an eye roll.

Except for “Jill”.

Her response was more sinister.

In a sarcastic tone, Jill said:

“I remember when I was in my 20s and had big dreams.”

Jill’s sarcastic comment fueled my fire.

This was the turning point in my life.

I quit that awful job, packed up, and drove to St. Louis.

I had $0 to my name and was over $40,000 in debt.

I also had no clients and no job on the horizon.

Most people would have looked at my situation and thought I was “hopeless”.
